- The title of the article makes it seem like the gun fired all by itself. I just read my local Seattle Times article, and it says that the gun "went off in his backpack." Apparently this is a new type of gun that does not require someone to pull the trigger.

- Read up on the Gun Control Act of 1968. There are only a few states that require background checks for private gun sales. In most states, it is not illegal to purchase a gun from a private party. Private parties are not subject to the federal laws that govern Firearms dealers.
